Asana Flow
Hatha Flow is a combination of the yogic traditions of asana (postures), pranayama (breathwork), and meditation. In this hour-long class we use gentle movement and build the foundational aspects of a yoga practice. All levels welcome, options for intermediate poses may be offered, but never required. Each student is encouraged to tailor the class to their individual needs.

Mvt [for Musicians]
This 45min class created by Kimberly Hankins, incorporates Mobility, Strength, and Flexibility Training. There are also elements of HIIT, Dance, and Meditation! All with the intention of correcting common muscular imbalances for musicians and improving overall fitness.

Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa Flow is a one hour yoga flow class with upbeat music and dynamic sequencing. This combination of pranayama, balancing poses, and floor work will have you feeling energized and powerful. All levels welcome! Options for intermediate poses may be offered, but never required. Each student is encouraged to tailor the class to their individual needs. This is the perfect class for musicians that want a little more heat and intensity in their practice.

Yoga Restore
This class is a combination of yoga asana, self massage, + meditation! A much slower version of Asana Flow that allows more room for calm exploration of yoga poses, and ends with a longer savasana for more meditation and inner reflection.

Yoga [for Musicians] at Arizona State University

A recent review of professional musicians states that as many as 93% of musicians suffer from a playing-related injury in their lifetime. Many of us already have issues with a repetitive stress injury, struggle with chronic pain, or performance anxiety. The best thing that we can do to prolong the life of our careers as musicians, is to treat ourselves as our primary instrument and prioritize wellness. Musicians have very specific needs when exploring any yoga or fitness practice, as some aspects of these disciplines can actually aggravate playing-related injuries. This class avoids or adapts these aspects to make it more accessible for musicians. Throughout the semester we will cover a wide range of asana (yoga poses), gentle exercise, stretching techniques, and pranayama (breathwork) so each individual class will look slightly different. 

Yoga for Musicians is for All Levels and no experience in yoga or fitness is necessary. It’s recommended to have a yoga mat, especially if you have a hard floor, and a couple yoga blocks or thick textbooks nearby. Occasionally we will also use pillows or blankets as additional props.
